Man Utd 'competition' causes panic over €40m signing

Manchester United's interest in RB Leipzig captain David Raum is a major headache for Juventus.

The Germany international has been in the headlines for weeks due to his contract situation. Raum's current deal expires next year, and by his own admission, there has been no progress on an agreement for fresh terms.

This means that, as things stand, the 28-year-old will be a free agent next summer. Although he is happy at Leipzig, Raum has made no secret of the fact that some of the approaches he has received have flattered him.

This summer, Raum had a release clause in the region of roughly €40 million, and Man Utd were constantly linked with him during their search for a new left-back. They ultimately decided to keep their powder dry in hopes of landing top target Lewis Hall next year.

However, the Newcastle star has penned a new contract, which has made this undertaking eminently more difficult. Consequently, Raum could yet again emerge as an option for the Red Devils should he indeed become available on a Bosman.

Juventus also want Raum

Naturally, though, Raum's contract situation is also being closely followed by other suitors. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are attentive to the Leipzig captain's future as they, too, need a left-back.

Like Man Utd, they briefly considered making a move for Man City outcast Rayan Ait-Nouri late in the summer window. However, they also baulked at the demands of the Cityzens, who were only willing to consider permanent offers.

The interest in Ait-Nouri remains, but Raum is also a credible - and likely more affordable - option for the Bianconeri. The report emphasises, though, that Man Utd's interest is a concern.

The Old Trafford outfit are described as Juventus' "main competition" for the signing of the 39-cap international. However, according to data from analytics firm SciSports, Raum has an easy decision - and it's good news for the Old Lady.

SciSports' Career Advice tool, which analyses several important factors such as playing time prospects and stylistic suitability, suggests that Juventus would be a significantly better choice for Raum than Man Utd.

Their playstyle, in particular, is believed to suit the marauding full-back to a tee, whereas the Red Devils are a poor tactical fit for him. The allure of the Premier League will be difficult to resist, but Juventus should be able to make a strong pitch to Raum.
