Milos Kerkez upgrade breaks silence on 'fun' Liverpool interest

Borussia Dortmund left-back Daniel Svensson has admitted that it's "fun" being linked with clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool.

The Sweden international has been a highly sought-after commodity since his days playing for Nordsjaelland in Denmark. In early 2025, Dortmund won the race to sign Svensson, initially taking him on loan.

His stint was officially made permanent last season, and Svensson has continued to impress. While he doesn't have the same attacking drive as his Norwegian counterpart Julian Ryerson, who notched a whopping 18 assists last term, the 24-year-old is about as solid a full-back as you will find.

Svensson's consistency and reliability make him an attractive option to top clubs. Links with Premier League heavyweights have been swirling since 2024, when FootballTransfers exclusively revealed that Liverpool were monitoring his performances at Nordsjaelland.

This summer, the Reds were yet again linked with Svensson due to Milos Kerkez's incredibly disappointing first season at the club, while Arsenal were also mentioned as possible suitors for the Swede. Dortmund managed to successfully fend off this interest by setting an inflated price tag.

Svensson happy at Dortmund

Speaking to SVT while on international duty, Svensson has addressed this summer's rumours. He insists that a transfer was never particularly close and that he is loving life at Dortmund, who have enjoyed a 100% start to the new Bundesliga season.

"I saw something about it," Svensson responded when asked about the Arsenal and Liverpool links. "But I haven’t heard anything more about it. Of course, it can be fun to read."

However, he added: "There was nothing concrete, and I had not heard anything more than what was in the newspaper. I feel good at Dortmund and look forward to continuing my journey there." Was a transfer ever close? "No, not at all. Honestly," he reiterated.

Svensson has 18 senior Sweden caps to his name. He made three appearances at this summer's World Cup and has featured in both of the games his country have played so far in this international break, beating Romania and Poland.

Because Graham Potter has several left-back options at his disposal, most notably Leeds star Gabriel Gudmundsson, Svensson has been used as a utility man. He has had to fill in at right-back and even in more advanced roles.

The 24-year-old has played every available minute for Dortmund so far this season and also shown his versatility at club level. He successfully deputised at centre-back in Niko Kovac's back-three in BVB's season opener against Hamburg.

Given his ability to play in multiple positions, it is not surprising that Svensson is an attractive option for several Premier League clubs.
