MUTV pundit Ben Thornley branded new Arsenal signing Kai Havertz as “rubbish” during the friendly between the two teams on Saturday.

Man Utd defeated Arsenal comfortably 2-0 at the Met Life Stadium in the United States as the two teams continued their pre-season tours in America.

Bruno Fernandes and Jadon Sancho scored the goals in an impressive win for the Red Devils.

On the other hand, Arsenal were far from their best with a number of players very off the pace.

Gabriel Magalhaes made a huge error on Sancho’s goal, Declan Rice struggled in midfield, while fellow newboy Havertz was criticised heavily also.

Indeed, Man Utd’s official television channel dished out some savage remarks about the Germany international.

Former winger Ben Thornley, who played for Man Utd in the 1990s as a reserve, blasted Haverz while working as a pundit on the game.

What did Ben Thornley say about Havertz?

“I’d have just taken Kai Havertz off because he’s rubbish,” slammed Thornley when Arsenal made a number of substitutions.

So harsh was the criticism that his co-commentator remarked: “What has Kai Havertz ever done to you?”

Havertz joined Arsenal from Chelsea this summer in a transfer that is worth €75 million.

Arsenal’s move for Havertz came as something of a surprise as the Germany international largely struggled ever since arriving in the Premier League.

Although he scored the winner in the 2021 Champions League final against Manchester City, Havertz failed to live up to his billing after his £71m move from Bayer Leverkusen in 2021.

This led to Chelsea deciding to sell him this summer, with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta confident he can get the best out of the versatile midfielder-come-attacker.
