Manchester United appear to have missed out on Adrien Rabiot - again - after Fabrizio Romano's latest update.

The Frenchman is out of contract at Juventus this summer and has been the subject of plenty of speculation. He's coming off an impressive personal season - despite the Bianconeri's struggles - and suggestions were that a Premier League move (at the senior level) could finally be on the cards for a player who has been decidedly hit-and-miss throughout his career.

Manchester United had already been in for the 28-year-old last summer, but a deal ultimately fell through because of the demands of the player's mother and agent, Veronique, who is notorious for being a tough negotiator.

Despite this, Erik ten Hag had reportedly been eyeing a move for the midfielder yet again, but his hopes of landing him appear to have been dashed.

What did Romano say?

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Juventus are poised to tie Rabiot down to a new deal. The club are said to be feeling good about their chances of getting a deal over the line and beating out competition from the Red Devils and other suitors.

"Juventus hope," the Italian announced to his 16 million Twitter followers, "to get the green light from Adrien Rabiot in the next days to extend the contract and get [a] new deal signed."

"There's optimism," he continued, "to get the agreement done as Rabiot could be [a] free agent next week but [the] Juve proposal is now the best one on the table."

The details of this proposal have not been disclosed, but Tuttosport recently claimed that Juventus have offered just a one-year extension to give Rabiot's mother the time to find a suitable club while also giving the Bianconeri the opportunity to still convince the player of their project during next season.
