Revealed: Man Utd’s €120m move for Dusan Vlahovic

Manchester United made a surprise move for Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic in the January transfer window, according to AS.

The Serbian forward’s future at Juventus is unclear as it’s possible the Italian club may have to sell players if they are unable to qualify for the Champions League.

Italy’s record league champions are currently seventh in Serie A after being handed a points deduction in January for mishandling transfer finances, which has given them a big battle in the race to finish in the top four.

Now, though, Manchester United are planning a move for the summer and their work in January may have already laid the groundwork for a transfer.

Spanish paper AS say the English side are leading the race to sign Vlahovic, ahead of clubs like Real Madrid, who are also tracking the progress of the forward.

‘Sources directly involved in the negotiations’ claim Juventus discussed a deal with ‘a top team in the Premier League, presumably Man Utd’ in January, and that he would cost between €100-120 million.

Manchester United made a move for Wout Weghorst in the January transfer window, but he is just seen as a stop-gap following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

The club are thin on options in attack but their plan is to sign a top class number nine for Erik ten Hag’s side in the summer window after this season.

Along with Vlahovic, they are monitoring the progress of players like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Red Bull Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko.

As for Vlahovic, it was reported earlier this month that he was plotting an exit from the Old Lady, as he tried to facilitate a move to Real Madrid in January, but that transfer was not possible.

According to the same source, Real Madrid believe Vlahovic is ‘one of the most promising strikers is on the market’ and he could be the ideal replacement for Karim Benzema.
