Man City join Man Utd and Liverpool in race for €120m midfield star

Enzo Fernandez’s reputation is slowly growing amongst some of Europe’s top clubs and it’s no surprise given his top form for Benfica over the course of this season so far.
Fernandez joined Benfica in the summer from Argentine club River Plate and has done exceptionally well in Portugal both domestically and in Europe.
As a result, the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona have identified him as a target for a future transfer and will want to get a deal over the line for him.

However, they will face competition from English champions Manchester City, who may have the financial capacity to pull off such a deal.

Fernandez signed for Benfica for a €12 million fee and Benfica would only be willing to sell if his release clause is met – and it’s set at a high €120 million.
Not many clubs will be able to afford that, but Manchester City may just be able to, especially if they have to make replacements in their squad.

Ilkay Gundogan’s contract expires at the end of the season and there have been suggestions that he may leave the club at the end of the season, giving City more incentive to make a move for the Argentine.
Fernandez’s stock is only set to rise after he was selected in the Argentina squad for the World Cup, which begins a week from Sunday, and fine performances there could raise interest in him.
According to Record in Portugal, Manchester United have shown the greatest interest in him as Erik ten Hag is a keen admirer of the player’s talents.

Other than that, Liverpool have also been eyeing a move as they look to improve their own options in midfield after a tough start to the season.
Fernandez has scored three goals and provided four assists in 22 appearances for Benfica this season and has a contract at the club until the summer of 2027.
