David Moyes' side are in the market for a new striker to provide competition for Michail Antonio, who was their only recognised senior number nine last season.

Southampton, the club with whom Broja spent the 2021-22 campaign on loan at, are also interested in signing him again. In addition, FootballTransfers understand that Frank Lampard is keen to use his Chelsea contacts and sign Broja, along with Conor Gallagher, this summer. Napoli and Newcastle have also been linked.

What has Tuchel said?

However, speaking ahead of Chelsea's pre-season friendly against Charlotte FC, Tuchel gave a new update on the situation regarding Broja's future.

The German head coach said: "I don't expect Armando [Broja] to leave. We are aware of offers. We are aware of interest. That tells us his potential. We will take this decision together, the owners and me with the player.

"When he arrived it was clear he was trying to become a Chelsea player as soon as possible. After his loan at Southampton, the situation was clear to make the next step and show his improvement."

Broja scored six Premier League goals for Southampton last season, but ended the campaign on a three-month goal drought.

He has been sent home from Chelsea's pre-season tour of the USA and has flown back to England along with Faustino Anjorin. Both Billy Gilmour and Harvey Vale have left the senior squad too, and have joined the U23s' training camp.

West Ham are said to be close to agreeing a £30 million deal for Broja, but Tuchel has issued words of encouragement to suggest he may stick around this season instead.
