Chelsea have confirmed that Thomas Tuchel has signed a contract extension until 2024 after leading the club to the Champions League title.

Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge in January following the sacking of Frank Lampard and lifted the side from mid-table mediocrity to a fourth-place finish.

More notably, though, Chelsea won the Champions League under the German's hand, with Tuchel helping them to overcome Real Madrid in the semi-finals before defeating Manchester City 1-0 in the showpiece thanks to a goal from Kai Havertz.

His efforts have been rewarded with a two-year extension as a result.

A statement on the club's official website reads: "Chelsea Football Club is very happy to confirm that, following our triumph in the Champions League, Thomas Tuchel’s contract has been extended by two years, as agreed when he joined the Club."

Tuchel is, naturally, delighted with the development.

"I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family," he said.

"There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation."
