Manchester United have firmly entered the race for Chelsea target Yan Diomande, who is in the midst of a breakout season at RB Leipzig.

The 19-year-old has enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence. Just last year, Diomande was still playing amateur football in the United States and getting rejected by European clubs.

In January 2025, he joined Spanish side Leganes, with whom he would eventually be relegated. However, he did enough to convince Leipzig to pay €20 million for him in the summer. His signing has proved to be an inspired decision from the Bundesliga side.

The teenager has hit like a bomb in Germany. He has scored seven goals and recorded four assists, earning himself a starting spot in the Ivory Coast's Africa Cup of Nations team in the process.

His development has been closely followed by English clubs, with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea linked with Diomande in recent weeks. Sky Germany peviously claimed that Leipzig have slapped a €100 million price tag on their wonderkid.

Man Utd join Diomande race

Now, Sky Sports reports that Man Utd have firmly joined the race for Diomande and even posits that the Red Devils could make a January move for the rapid winger.

While Man Utd are not guaranteed to pursue another wide player after missing out on Antoine Semenyo, it is claimed that they could "accelerate their interest" should his other suitors attempt to sign him in the upcoming window.

Intriguingly, the report also dismisses the claims from Germany that Diomande could command a fee as high as €100m. It is instead asserted that Leipzig could be willing to do business for a fee between €60m and €70m.

This would put him in the same ballpark as Semenyo and, given that Man Utd were ready to sign the Bournemouth star, suggests that they could indeed look to bring Diomande in this winter.

Fabrizio Romano revealed on Tuesday that Man Utd are actively scouring the market for potential alternatives to Semenyo and that they will only sanction Joshua Zirkzee's move to AS Roma if they can bring in another attacker.
