Chelsea's next signing says 'YES' to January transfer
Douglas Luiz is ready to accept a temporary move to Chelsea before the end of winter transfer window, as per reports in Italy.
The Brazil international, who is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, has emerged as a key transfer target for Liam Rosenior’s side in recent days and a full agreement is close to being reached over a six-month deal.
Luiz has only started five Premier League matches for Forest since his arrival at the club over the summer and he was excluded from their matchday squad to face Brentford on Sunday amid negotiations over a move to Chelsea.
The west London giants have earmarked Luiz as a short-term fix to their current issues in midfield, with Rosenior eager to land a player capable of deputising for Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez in the absence of both Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo through injury.
Forest are understood to be open to terminating his loan agreement at The City Ground and Luiz is now ready to say “yes” to Chelsea’s proposal, according to Italian publication Tuttosport.
It’s reported that Luiz has asked his agent Kia Joorabchian to find him a new club this month, and Chelsea have quickly emerged as the frontrunners for his signature amid their pursuit of a new central midfielder before Transfer Deadline Day on 2 February.
Douglas Luiz to join Chelsea?
Ajax and Aston Villa were also reportedly interested in landing Luiz this month, but Chelsea look set to bring him to Stamford Bridge on an initial loan deal with an option to buy.
Tuttosport claim that Chelsea will have no problem purchasing Luiz permanently if he performs well during the remainder of the season, although the Blues are also expected to rekindle their interest in Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton later this year.
Further contact between Juventus and Chelsea is reportedly expected to take place over the next few days, with Luiz edging closer to become the Blues’ first signing of the 2026 January transfer window.
