Arsenal reach full agreement for FIRST January transfer - Fabrizio Romano
Marseille have reached a full agreement with Arsenal over a six-month loan deal for Ethan Nwaneri, according to football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.
Nwaneri, 18, has only racked up 515 minutes of action across all competitions so far this season and he has been heavily linked with a temporary departure before the end of the January transfer window.
The England U21 international was tipped to complete a short-term move to Bournemouth this month, but he reportedly rejected the chance to join Andoni Iraola’s side in favour of remaining at the Emirates Stadium.
However, he is now set to join Marseille until the end of the 2025-26 season, as per Romano, who posted on X: "Ethan Nwaneri to Olympique Marseille, here we go! Deal in place on loan until June.
"OM to cover salary + loan fee around €4m based on appearances. De Zerbi spoke with Mikel Arteta about plans for Nwaneri, AFC suggested OM as best option. NO buy clause. Back in June."
The transfer has also been confirmed by David Ornstein, with Marseille hoping for Nwaneri to travel to France following Arsenal's Champions League clash against Inter Milan on Tuesday night.
Ethan Nwaneri to join Marseille?
Nwaneri enjoyed a successful breakthrough campaign in 2024-25, making 37 first-team appearances across all competitions amid an injury crisis in north London.
However, he has found opportunities far harder to come by this term following the summer additions of Noni Madueke from Chelsea and Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace.
The England U21 starlet hasn’t played a single Premier League minute since Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in late November, while he has been excluded from the Gunners’ last four matchday squads in the English top flight.
As a result, talk of a January exit has intensified in recent weeks and Marseille have now reached a full agreement to sign him on loan.
