Chelsea are reportedly still eager to offload Celtic transfer target David Datro Fofana on a permanent deal following his return from a successful loan spell at Fatih Karagumruk.

The 23-year-old netted eight goals in 15 matches for the Turkish Super Lig outfit during the first half of the campaign and Chelsea have opted to recall him in order to sanction a permanent sale.

Datro Fofana, who joined the Blues for €12 million from Molde in January 2023, has made four first-team appearances for Chelsea, however he has been sent on four separate loan spells since his arrival at the club and an exit is on the cards before Deadline Day on 2 February.

The Ivorian striker was heavily linked with a move to Celtic before joining Fatih Karagumruk on loan in September, but the Hoops were unable to finalise a late deal and they eventually landed Kelechi Iheanacho on a Bosman transfer following his exit from Leicester City.

However, the centre forward position was identified as a key priority by Martin O’Neill’s side ahead of the January transfer window and they have already completed the signing of Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tomas Cvancara on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for €8m.

Despite this, the Scottish giants continue to be linked with another attacker and they have received confirmation that Datro Fofana is still available.

Chelsea chase David Datro Fofana sale

The Athletic have revealed that Chelsea are keen to sell Datro Fofana before the winter transfer window closes next week as they look to raise funds ahead of a busy 2026 that is set to see them target a new defender, midfielder and forward.

Axel Disasi, Raheem Sterling and Tyrique George may also leave Stamford Bridge over the next few days, although negotiations over exits for all three players aren’t yet advanced.

Liam Rosenior’s side have already sold Leo Castledine to Middlesbrough so far this month, while 17-year-old defender Yisa Alao has been purchased from Sheffield Wednesday.
