Man Utd Transfer News Today: Club near midfield deals and Dorgu replacement
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Man Utd transfer news, including updates on Mohamed Kader Miete, Johan Manzambi, and Carlos Baleba.
Man Utd target Rennes wonderkid after Dorgu injury
Patrick Dorgu has been ruled out for 12 weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during Man Utd’s 3-2 victory over Arsenal.
The club are looking to sign Rennes attacker Mohamed Kader Miete, with the 18-year-old’s representatives having already been contacted, according to the Guardian.
While Dorgu has played on the left wing in recent matches, Miete is a centre-forward. Man Utd is reportedly undecided as to whether they want a winger or No. 9 in this window.
Miete has scored three goals and provided two assists in 17 Ligue 1 matches (six starts).
The Frenchman has already been targeted by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal with a €40m bid, while Man Utd hope to land the player for closer to €30m.
Johan Manzambi deal ‘increasingly likely’
SC Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi has been one of the surprise stars of the Bundesliga this season.
Man Utd are looking to sign him as a dominant presence in their midfield for years to come, according to SportsBoom.
He has already made 16 Bundesliga appearances, which is five more than he managed all of last season.
The 20-year-old Switzerland international has scored three goals with two assists in the league this season, and he added another goal in the Europa League against Nice.
He had been viewed as a potential Kobbie Mainoo replacement when the Englishman was out of favour under Ruben Amorim, and even though Michael Carrick restored Mainoo to the starting XI, Manzambi remains a target.
Freiburg are reportedly asking for a €55m fee in return for Manzambi.
Brighton ready to negotiate over Carlos Baleba
Man Utd received a welcome update in their pursuit of Brighton defensive midfielder Carlos Baleba, according to TeamTalk. The Seagulls are reportedly prepared to negotiate down from their initial nine-figure asking price.
The Daily Mail says that instead of the €100m fee the southern England club had previously stood firm at, they now may be willing to accept an offer of €85m.
While still no small fee, it should be noted that Premier League experience costs a premium, and that Man Utd will be eager to get their Casemiro replacement into the club as soon as possible.
Chelsea deal blow to Man Utd over Cole Palmer move
Reports surfaced last week that Chelsea star Cole Palmer was ready to leave London and return to Manchester, but the southwest London club has quieted those rumblings by labeling the England international ‘untouchable,' according to Sky Sports News.
Palmer has struggled this season, largely due to a persistent calf injury that has pulled him in and out of the lineup.
He played 90 minutes against Man City on 4 January, played another 75 minutes against Fulham the following Wednesday, missed Chelsea’s FA Cup third round win over Charlton and their League Cup semifinal first-leg loss to Arsenal, and then returned to play 90 minutes and score against Brentford on 17 January.
He has missed Chelsea’s two matches since then.
Despite his lack of consistent health this season, Chelsea certainly want to keep him away from Man Utd.
Irish youth centre-back arrives on trial
Ike Manjor, a 16-year-old centre-back for Cork City, is on trial with Man Utd, according to Republic of Ireland Player Tracker.
Signing Manjor would continue Man Utd’s trend of bolstering its youth ranks. The club signed teenagers Ayden Heaven, Chido Obi, and Diego Leon in recent seasons, with Heaven and Obi joining from Premier League rivals Arsenal.
Manjor has only appeared in one senior football match, but he signed his first professional contract only last year and is said to be pursued by multiple Premier League clubs.
