Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has offered a strongly worded statement in the wake of rumours linking him with Real Madrid and Tottenham.

FIFA agent Morris Pagniello claimed earlier this week that the aforementioned clubs had taken a decisive advantage in the race to sign the in-form Mexico international, who has 15 goals in 11 games this season.

He also raised the subject of a €100 million fee for the 22-year-old.

Paignello has claimed for many months that he is an “intermediary” for the Feyenoord striker in Europe, but this is not true, with the attacker’s career solely managed by his father.

Gimenez has moved to clarify his situation, denying that Paignello has anything to do with him.

He took to Twitter to state:

“In the last few hours, statements have come out about my future that have emerged from sources far from my entourage. Given this situation, I would like to clarify that I do not have a representative and that the person in charge of my career is my father with the help of Mariel,” he said.

“It is important not to take into account versions that have not been made by them or by me. I am very grateful for the understanding and support that everyone shows me every day. We have always been very open with information and know that as soon as there is any news to give, we will gladly let you know.”

Where does this leave Gimenez?

Gimenez has not commented on links relating to Real Madrid or Tottenham directly, so it is unclear where they stand with regards their chances of signing him.

Fabrizio Romano, however, has given a convincing argument as to why it is likely that Spurs are interested in the player. He states that the interest could date back to the London club sounding out Arne Slot as their new manager in the summer, which was a link that ultimately came to nothing.
