Alex Sandro could well remain at Juventus beyond the summer if the club continue to play him this season, FootballTransfers can exclusively reveal.

Reports suggest that the player is headed for a departure from the side in June 2023 when his contract ends but sources have informed us that ‘the situation is a bit more complicated’ as a clause in the left-back’s deal means that the one-year extension will be automatically activated should he play a certain number of games.

The Brazilian has played 17 matches in all competitions for the Old Lady this season already and unless the side opts to bring in a replacement this January window it is likely he will continue to feature.

Though there are no discussions underway for an extension - and Juve do have an option of an extra year - a further season with the club beyond June 2023 would come to fruition if the 31-year-old plays more games.

Further reports have speculated that talks are underway for a renewal at a lower cost - but we are told this is not the case and no talks of a further deal are on the horizon.

Alex Sandro’s illustrious history

Alex Sandro joined Serie A champions Juventus for €26 million on a five-year contract from Porto and his spellbinding displays in the subsequent years had him linked to a plethora of top clubs.

The defender has played 289 times for the Italian giants, helping them win five Serie A titles, four Coppas Italia, and a Supercoppa Italiana.

Sandro has also played 40 times for his national side and was called up to play for Brazil in the Qatar World Cup.

He joined Juventus from Porto for €26m in 2015 and was at one point considered the world's best left-back.
