Celtic edge closer to completing first summer signing
Bournemouth are reportedly willing to sell Julian Araujo to Celtic on a permanent deal when his loan spell expires this summer.
The 24-year-old moved to Celtic Park on a short-term deal during the January transfer window and he has established himself as a fan favourite since his arrival in Glasgow, scoring once in his 13 appearances to date.
Araujo still has three years remaining on his current contract at Bournemouth, but despite the fact that club captain Adam Smith is now 34 years old, Andoni Iraola’s side are ready to sell the right-back following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season.
That is according to Football Insider, who claim that Araujo is open to joining Celtic on a permanent deal, while the Bhoys are willing to engage in transfer negotiations with Bournemouth.
The Mexico international is reportedly thoroughly enjoying his time with the Scottish giants and Bournemouth will not stand in his way if he wants to join the club permanently ahead of next campaign.
It’s understood that Celtic are keen to sign a new right-back this summer to provide cover for first-choice option Alistair Johnston, who has returned to team training following a lengthy injury layoff, and Araujo has been earmarked as a top target.
Celtic’s summer transfer plans revealed
In addition to potentially securing Araujo’s signature on a permanent deal, Celtic are also interested in signing a new centre forward following the goalscoring woes of their current options so far this campaign.
It has been revealed that Plymouth Argyle hitman Lorent Tolaj is among the Hoops’ top targets, having scored 18 goals and provided four assists in 32 games across all competitions for Tom Cleverley’s side this term, while his team-mate Bim Pepple is on the club’s radar too.
Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh has also been linked with a Celtic Park switch in recent months, although the Scottish giants may find a deal difficult to finalise following his impressive exploits during this season’s Champions League.
