The 32-year-old is currently set to leave Liverpool upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June and he has subsequently been tipped to complete a dream move to Celtic Park on a free transfer.

Tottenham Hotspur and several other Premier League clubs are also expected to battle for Robertson’s signature during the upcoming summer transfer window, while the possibility of signing a new deal at Liverpool has not yet been ruled out.

Robertson is a boyhood Celtic fan and it has been speculated that a move back to his homeland could be on the cards following his lack of game time this season after falling behind summer signing Milos Kerkez in the pecking order at Anfield.

However, despite Celtic’s reported desire to finalise a Bosman deal for Robertson, former Scotland international Pat Nevin believes a move may not be viable.

Andy Robertson to Celtic transfer verdict

“It is interesting because without all the technical stuff about styles etc, Tierney and Robertson, when they play for Scotland, in a back three, one of them, usually Tierney is the left centre-back. He played there for Arsenal quite a few times and was very good at that,” Nevin admitted (via the Liverpool Echo).

“Scotland are amazing down the left-hand side because they work well as a pair. So can you play with both of them in the same team? Yes, you can. Robertson can play as a wing-back and Tierney can play the centre-back role, so can Robbo.

“The only problem is how do you fit that into a 4-2-3-1, which is what most teams are playing. That's harder…

“It'll come down to the cost because I'm afraid Celtic have a lot of other jobs to do other than left full-back. They've got creative jobs to do. They'll get Jota back next season which will make a big difference.

“So it's a nice idea and it would fit well but it is also A) costly and B) if you're going to be utterly heartless about it, there ain't no sell-on value. And that's not Celtic's model, most of the time.”

Robertson has made 30 appearances for Liverpool so far this season, but he has only started six Premier League matches and he could be set to follow in Mohamed Salah’s footsteps by leaving Anfield this summer.
