Celtic ready to hijack Rangers striker signing
Celtic have reportedly registered their interest in Hibernian striker Kieron Bowie, who is also wanted by arch-rivals Rangers.
Bowie, 23, has scored eight goals and provided three assists in 21 Scottish Premiership appearances so far this season and his excellent form has attracted the attention of both Celtic and Rangers.
Rangers have been tracking Bowie’s progress for some time, amid their pursuit of a new centre forward, and they have been quoted a transfer fee of €7.5 million for the former Fulham academy star.
The Ibrox giants are desperate to purchase an upgrade on summer signings Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski, and Bowie has been sounded out as a top target by the Rangers hierarchy.
However, Danny Rohl’s side are set to face significant competition for the Scotland U21 international’s signature as Celtic have now joined the race to sign him in January, according to a report from The Herald.
The Hoops are also in the market for a new striker this winter and Hibernian are reportedly aware that Celtic are interested in landing Bowie this month.
Birmingham City star Kyogo Furuhashi has been linked with a sensational January return to Celtic Park, however a transfer has been ruled out by both parties and the Scottish giants have now turned their attention to Bowie.
Kieron Bowie transfer message
When asked if he was aware of transfer interest in Bowie on Saturday, Hibernian boss David Gray told reporters (via The Herald): “No, I think naturally, again with the window being open, that's speculation that will always be there.
“It's a sign of the football club doing well, it's a sign that your players are playing well, your teammates, that it helps you get into these positions. And for any player that gets speculation around them, there's nothing you can do about that. It means you're doing something right.
“I think that's something that's great to have, as long as you remember why that's come. It's come because you're playing well, you're working hard, you're part of a successful team. And I don't expect that speculation to go away!”
