Manchester United manager situation

Manchester United are approaching a decisive week as they prepare to appoint an interim manager before turning their attention to a permanent solution.

Romano has revealed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is no longer the favourite for the job and that Michael Carrick is now expected to take over on an interim basis until the end of the season.

“Manchester United are ready to appoint their new caretaker manager from now until the end of the season,” Romano revealed. “In the last 12 hours, Michael Carrick has made important progress in talks with Manchester United after a face-to-face interview.

“The meeting between Manchester United management and Michael Carrick was very positive in terms of ideas, tactics, communication and intention. The feeling was really good, and as of tonight Carrick is becoming the leading option for the interim job.”

Luis Enrique and Paris Saint-Germain

Speculation around Luis Enrique’s future has intensified, but the reality inside Paris Saint-Germain is very different.

“I want to clarify something about the stories coming from the international press regarding Luis Enrique rejecting a new contract at Paris Saint-Germain, because from what I heard these stories are not true,” Romano told his YouTube channel.

“Paris Saint-Germain are in a very good relationship with Luis Enrique. He is involved in everything. Luis Enrique, Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi together built an incredible team, reaching a huge number of titles with a very good level of players.

“They are all very happy together and they are building something special again for 2026. They already started winning the Super Cup and they are working on several contracts, including Ousmane Dembele.

“PSG are fully focused on their project with Luis Enrique, Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi working together. Today Luis Enrique also said in a press conference that there is a lot of fake news around Paris just to create problems in the environment, but that is not the reality.

“At the moment the situation is completely quiet, with full focus on the present, because PSG really believe they can still win many titles this season. So these stories are completely fake.”

Mathys Tel and Tottenham Hotspur

Mathys Tel’s future at Tottenham is closely linked to his need for regular minutes and long-term international ambitions.

“Talking about players, let me start with Mathys Tel, because he is an important talent,” Romano explained.

“He joined Tottenham Hotspur almost one year ago, in January 2025, and now the key point is his future. Mathys Tel has one big dream, to go to the World Cup with the France national team.

“He wants to play regularly and feel important. The message arriving from the player’s side to Tottenham is very clear. If he is not playing, he is prepared to go.

“At this stage, Tottenham’s intention is still to keep the player and to make Mathys Tel one of the important players in the second half of the season. But from the player’s side, he will follow the situation very closely in the next days and weeks.

“If he doesn’t play and doesn’t feel important with regular game time, Mathys Tel could consider an exit from Tottenham in the January transfer window on loan.

“There are several clubs interested in different countries, not only in England. Also in Germany, where he already played at Bayern Munich, and also in France. For example Paris FC, not Paris Saint-Germain, are very ambitious and would love to sign Mathys Tel on loan.

“But at this stage Tottenham are not giving a green light. The message from the club is still clear. They want to keep the player.”

Mike Maignan contract talks

AC Milan are progressing in negotiations with Mike Maignan, with only one key issue left to resolve.

“Talking about French players, Mike Maignan, because the agreement between Mike Maignan and AC Milan on the structure of the new contract is done,” Romano revealed.

“It’s going to be €5 million net plus €2m in bonuses, so €7m total. The point now is to decide on the commission, and this is the discussion with the agent side.

“Don’t forget that Mike Maignan is out of contract in the summer of 2026. Chelsea wanted to sign him before the Club World Cup, but they didn’t find an agreement with Milan and the deal collapsed.

“Since that moment Chelsea left all the conversations. Now Milan are in advanced talks, waiting for the final step on commissions, and then they will be more than happy to keep Mike Maignan at the club with a new contract.”

Marcus Rashford and Barcelona

Barcelona and Marcus Rashford are aligned on continuing their relationship beyond this season.

“Today is Super Cup day in Saudi Arabia between Barcelona and Real Madrid, and Deco, the director of Barcelona, confirmed that Joao Cancelo will officially join the club from next week,” Romano said.

“But Deco also met with the camp of Marcus Rashford. Barcelona have told the player that they want to keep him beyond this season. They want to continue with Marcus.

“There is a €30 million buy option for the summer. It’s not mandatory and it will be Barcelona’s decision. It’s not something to be decided now.

“But the intention of Barcelona is clear. They want to continue with Rashford, and I can also tell you that the intention of Marcus Rashford is exactly the same.

“Marcus would be more than happy to stay at Barcelona. Both sides want to continue together. Now it’s going to be technical and financial, and it will take some time.

“Barcelona will not communicate anything to Manchester United now. This is not a January story, but it is an important intention on both sides.”

Marc Guehi and January interest

Marc Guehi’s future remains open as Premier League and European giants weigh up their next moves.

“To finish, many questions on Michael Olise and what is going to happen,” Romano explained.

“The real intention of the player has always been to move in the summer on a free transfer, with Liverpool really pushing and Arsenal calling because Mikel Arteta is a big fan.

Bayern Munich also had some meetings, but now Manchester City have been very clear. They want to try, they want to make an important proposal, and they want to go strong for Olise in this January window.

“Manchester City are prepared to reach an agreement with Crystal Palace. They don’t see any problem on that side.

“But it’s on the player, because his plan has always been to move in the summer on a free transfer. So let’s see what happens, but the Michael Olise story remains absolutely alive.”
