Liverpool handed major boost in race to sign €87m superstar
Liverpool have been given fresh hope in their long-standing pursuit of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton as they look to finally secure a deal in 2027.
The England international, who has four senior caps for his country, has been heavily linked with an Anfield switch for several months and it’s understood that he remains on their transfer radar amid their bid to bolster the midfield options at Andoni Iraola’s disposal.
Alex Scott and Lamine Camara are also firmly on Liverpool’s radar, with the Reds expected to sign at least one new central midfielder as questions over Alexis Mac Allister’s long-term future persist.
Wharton’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at a career high of €86.6 million and Palace are expected to demand a hefty fee to sanction a sale next year, having lost Marc Guehi, Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise in recent seasons.
With Chelsea considered to be the frontrunners in the race to sign the aforementioned Scott, Liverpool may be forced to pursue a deal for Wharton instead, and Crystal Palace’s underwhelming start to life under new boss Pierre Sage could help the Reds finalise a deal.
Adam Wharton to leave Crystal Palace?
Crystal Palace won the FA Cup, the Community Shield and the Europa Conference League under Oliver Glasner, but they look set for a far more difficult 2026-27 campaign, with Premier League survival likely to be the primary aim.
The Eagles are just two points clear of the relegation zone after seven league matches and they suffered an embarrassing 5-0 loss to rivals Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon, with three goals coming inside the first 10 minutes.
While that result itself may not push Wharton to explore his transfer options, it certainly won’t help Palace in their bid to retain his services, especially given their subpar form so far this term.
As a result, Liverpool could look to pounce, and a move to Anfield will continue to look more appealing if Pierre Sage is unable to oversee an upturn in Palace’s form over the coming weeks.
