Celtic edge closer to DREAM Man City transfer
Celtic are reportedly plotting a move for Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega when his contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 season.
The 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium following the summer arrivals of Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford, and he is widely expected to leave the club next summer.
Ortega is yet to make an appearance for Man City in any competition so far this campaign and the club are willing to accept a Bosman exit as he doesn’t feature in Pep Guardiola’s long-term plans.
The former Arminia Bielefeld goalkeeper has been linked with a return to the Bundesliga next year, although Celtic have now emerged as possible suitors amid their pursuit of a long-term replacement for Kasper Schmeichel.
That is according to a report from Football Insider, who report that Ortega has been identified as a possible new signing by the Bhoys hierarchy as they look to bolster the first-team squad available to new head coach Wilfried Nancy.
Celtic are long-term admirers of Ortega and they are ready to accelerate their bid to secure his signature next year.
The aforementioned Schmeichel is expected to leave Celtic Park upon the expiration of his contract next July and Ortega has been earmarked as a potential replacement by the hierarchy in Glasgow.
Celtic transfer plans
In addition to Ortega, Celtic are also expected to target a new centre forward in 2026, with the club eager to finally land suitable replacements for Kyogo Furuhashi and Adam Idah, who both left earlier this year.
Columbus Crew star Wessam Abou Ali has reportedly been identified as a key option by the Hoops, while they are interested in his team-mate Diego Rossi too.
Celtic are also in the race to sign Shamrock Rovers wonderkid Michael Noonan, although he is being courted by a number of top Premier League clubs ahead of an imminent transfer battle.
