Bayern are 'confident' that Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo is open to joining the club, according to a report.

Speculation surrounding the 20-year-old is ramping up as the January transfer window edges closer. Mainoo is desperate to leave Man Utd on loan to get minutes under his belt and give himself a chance of making England's World Cup squad.

However, so far, there is no guarantee that the Red Devils will grant him his wish. Ruben Amorim insisted on Mainoo staying in the summer, and he has repeatedly doubled down on his position that he will not allow players to leave if he feels it would be to the detriment of squad cohesion.

Amorim was visibly annoyed when asked about Mainoo at a recent press conference, and there is a fear that Mainoo will once again be forced to stay. The youngster has played just 171 minutes of Premier League football this term.

Napoli have been exploring a move for the England international for some time, as Antonio Conte is adamant that he needs midfield reinforcements. Kevin de Bruyne is injured, and Frank Anguissa is set to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Bayern Munich confident over Mainoo

However, the new Serie A leaders are far from the only club keen on Mainoo. It was recently claimed that he has as many as 12 suitors vying for his signature, and TEAMtalk now reports that Bayern are firmly in the mix to sign him.

In fact, the Bundesliga champions are said to be 'confident' that Mainoo would be 'receptive' to a transfer to Munich. Bayern are chasing a permanent January deal for the midfielder, who currently has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €62.7 million.

It was previously reported that Mainoo is not keen to permanently depart his boyhood club, but there is clearly only so much he can take. His frustration at Old Trafford has 'reached boiling point,' the report states.

A potential problem could be the player's preference to remain in the Premier League, but it is acknowledged that he is 'open' to a move to Napoli, so a move abroad is clearly not a complete dealbreaker.
