Russell Martin makes BIG Nicolas Raskin decision
Rangers manager Russell Martin has made a big call on the future of star midfielder Nicolas Raskin that promises to have a decisive impact on the season of the Ibrox club.
Raskin was one of the Gers’ standout performers last term but has struggled to hit those same heights since Martin took command in the summer.
Prior to the international break, the Belgium international star was surprisingly left out of the starting XI in a key Champions League fixture with Club Brugge and was then omitted from the squad entirely for the 0-0 Old Firm draw with Celtic on 31 August.
The 24-year-old reportedly has a strained relationship with the new manager, with the player’s dad taking to social media to criticise Martin, who has now taken a decisive decision after Raskin was not sold prior to the transfer deadline.
Ahead of a crunch Premiership fixture with joint-leaders Hearts, Martin has taken the surprising decision to leave the 24-year-old out of his squad for that match, STV reports.
Raskin determined to fight for his spot at Rangers
Despite the problems, Raskin has previously indicated that he wants to stay at Rangers and fight for his place in the squad.
“My situation at the club is complicated,” he said. “I will return, work hard, and try to get playing time again.
“But it’s not just up to me. I know this is an important year, and I absolutely want to be part of this campaign with Belgium.
“Football is simply a game of ups and downs. I absolutely love Rangers.
“I’ve had some great moments there and have a strong bond with the fans. I always try to give my all.
“A transfer? No, that’s out of the question. I want to continue to resolve this at the club.”
With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €8.3 million, Raskin is the Gers’ second-most valuable asset behind Mohamed Diomande, and they could really use him fit and firing as Martin aims to secure their first league win of the season after four successive Premiership draws.
