Fabrizio Romano Transfer News: Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd’s transfer SECRETS
Football transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has looked back on the summer window and has revealed the background to some deals that fell through.
Davide Frattesi: Inter Milan to Newcastle United
“He was a serious target for Newcastle. He was the No.2 target on the list after Jacob Ramsey. Newcastle also approached his camp to understand the terms of taking him to England. In the final days of the transfer window, they called Frattesi again to understand the terms of a deal. Inter wanted to keep the player but in the case of a big offer, the situation could have been different.
“There was a game against Liverpool, when there was an injury, so they wanted to understand the situation again. They decided to avoid signing another midfielder, instead investing their money on Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa,” Romano revealed on YouTube.
Benjamin Sesko: RB Leipzig to Al-Hilal
“In the first week of June, Al-Hilal tried to sign the new Manchester United striker in a strong and concrete way. They made official contact with the agent of Sesko. They offered what was needed and what was wanted by RB Leipzig. It wasn’t only Newcastle and Man Utd, but Al-Hilal were also in the conversation.
“It wasn’t possible because it was the player who decided to stay in Europe and stay at the highest level possible. But Al-Hilal were prepared to pay more than Man Utd and were offering a way bigger salary.”
Luis Diaz: Liverpool to Al-Nassr
“He was the No.1 target for Al-Nassr, the team of Cristiano Ronaldo. But this was the case before the change of manager. In January, they tried to sign a top winger and in the end they signed a striker, Jhon Duran. But they tried for Mitoma, they tried for Rafael Leao and then they decided not to spend the money in the January window to revisit the situation. The target they had was Luis Diaz and were prepared to spend important money.
“Then, a change of management. The budget was way reduced. But Luis Diaz was a serious target at the end of May and beginning of June.”
Malick Fofana: Lyon to Bayern Munich
“Malick Fofana is a player who Bayern blocked on the market for a few weeks. The player had a verbal agreement with Bayern on the contract. But they told him in an honest way that they were only going to move for him if they didn’t get Luis Diaz. The negotiation with Liverpool was not that easy. Then it got completed in July. Fofana was the Plan B.”
Gabriel Martinelli: Arsenal to Bayern Munich
“Another player considered by Bayern was Gabriel Martinelli. They spoke to the agents of the player. It was a positive conversation but Martinelli is happy at Arsenal and Arsenal were showing no intention to accept anything close to €30-35m. For them, the player is worth way more, and that’s why the negotiation didn’t advance. It didn’t advance due to financial reasons.”
Rodrygo: Real Madrid to PSG
“We know he was a target for Manchester City. It was one of the stories of the summer transfer window. They would have moved for him if they had sent Savinho to Tottenham. But Rodrygo was also top of the list for PSG.
“If Bradley Barcola went to the Premier League, they would have moved for Rodrygo. It was a plan they had in July then Barcola decided he didn’t want to leave. Nothing materialised with the interest of Liverpool – but only if they didn’t get Alexander Isak.
“There were reports of Liverpool and Arsenal, but nothing got really advanced in terms of bids.”
Ethan Nwaneri: Arsenal to Chelsea or Borussia Dortmund
There were two clubs really trying to get him while there was still a chance during the time Arsenal were not agreeing a new contract with the player. Chelsea were preaapred to discuss Nwaneri in the conversations they had with Noni Madueke.
“Borussia Dortmund were also prepared to invest big, big money in Ethan Nwaneri in terms of contract, signing on fee and transfer fee to Arsenal. But Arsenal went very strong on their new contract negotiations and the player decided to show his loyalty to the club by signing a deal.”
