Rangers land blockbuster striker deal after Igamane sale
Everton striker Youssef Chermiti is on his way to Glasgow to complete a medical before joining Rangers, according to reports in Scotland.
The 21-year-old arrived at Everton from Sporting CP for €12.5 million in 2023, however he has only made 24 first-team appearances for the club, failing to score a single goal.
Despite this, the former Portugal U21 international could be set to become Rangers’ second-most expensive signing in history.
That is according to the Daily Record, who report that Chermiti will cost an initial transfer fee of €9.3m (£8m), which could rise to €11.6m (£10m) if potential add-on clauses are met.
Tore Andre Flo remains the club’s all-time record signing, courtesy of his €18m move from Chelsea back in 2001, however Chermiti will leapfrog Michael Ball into second place if Rangers end up paying the overall fee of €11.6m.
Youssef Chermiti to join Rangers
Chermiti has been deemed surplus to requirements by David Moyes, after the arrival of Thierno Barry from Villarreal, and he is set to replace Hamza Igamane at Ibrox, following the Moroccan’s move to Lille last week.
Igamane scored 16 goals in 46 games for Rangers last season and he finally completed a transfer to Lille on 29 August following weeks of intense rumours. The 22-year-old then marked his Lille debut with a brace during their 7-1 win over Lorient on Saturday.
Chermiti is en route to Glasgow to complete his medical and sign his contract at Rangers, and he will become the club’s 13th signing of the summer transfer window and Russell Martin looks to add further reinforcements to his squad after an underwhelming start to the season.
The Gers have drawn all four of their Scottish Premiership fixtures so far this campaign and they currently sit in seventh place in the table as a result.
