Russell Martin appointment ‘changed everything’ as Rangers target makes transfer U-turn

Rangers’ takeover and decision to appoint Russell Martin as the new manager has led to a major transfer development for the Glasgow club.
The Gers have yet to complete any signings this summer but did seem to have an exciting deal lined up for PSG U19 star Oumar Camara.
However, in a remarkable turn of events, the French teenager has elected to turn down the Ibrox club, according to L’Equipe.
The French source reports: “The recent sale of the Scottish club and the change in management have shifted the direction of his thinking. Nevertheless, the striker is not expected to stay in Paris.”
It has not been made explicitly clear that Camara has rejected Rangers over the club’s controversial decision to appoint Martin as manager, but given there had been a genuine expectation that Davide Ancelotti might be the man in charge, it would not be a huge surprise if this change of plan impacted the teenager’s thinking.
Out of contract at PSG, Camara would have arrived in Glasgow as a free agent and, as one of the Champions League winners’ most highly rated young talents, would have offered Rangers a sparkling start to the new ownership’s transfer business.
Rangers still pushing for six new signings
Rangers are seeking to sign several new players before pre-season starts on 23 June.
Leicester City centre-back Conor Coady and Maccabi Tel Aviv striker Dor Turgerman are two of the players most hotly linked with a move to Ibrox, the Daily Record reports.
On top of this, Rangers are seeking creative attacking players, with Troyes midfielder Metinho and Leeds United’s Largie Ramazani two players both rumoured to be of interest.
Finally, veteran hitman Jamie Vardy, who will leave Leicester this summer, has been linked with a switch to Martin’s side. However, the England international’s wages, which comfortably top £100,000 per week, make the prospect of a deal unlikely.
