Kylian Mbappe is set to make a decision over his future in the coming weeks, however optimism is fading over a move to Real Madrid, with the Frenchman reportedly having ‘many doubts’ over leaving Paris Saint-Germain.

Mbappe has long-been linked with a move to Real, having rejected the Spanish giants in 2022 to perform a u-turn and sign a massive extension at PSG, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

It was believed that Mbappe was keen to make the move to Real after opting against activating a one-year extension in his deal last summer but the 25-year-old is said to still be considering his options.

Spanish outlet AS report that Mbappe does not yet have a new offer from PSG on the table yet but that will change if he communicates to the club that he wishes to stay, having told the Ligue 1 champions that a final decision will be made ‘in no more than one or two weeks’.

Another year in France is looking more likely, with Real’s offer to Mbappe believed to total up to €30 million annually, while the forward could still activate his option with PSG to earn €70m for next season.

Where do Real Madrid and PSG both stand with Mbappe?

For Real, Mbappe’s signing ‘is no longer as high of a priority’ as it was in 2022 due to the emergence of talents such as Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham, although they still want to sign the French captain.

PSG, meanwhile are desperate to keep hold of Mbappe and would see his departure as a ‘disaster’, with both the club and Ligue 1 on a whole set to lose a substantial amount if he did leave.

The Parisian side believe they have done everything possible to make Mbappe happy at the club, with the superstar no longer having to compete with Lionel Messi or Neymar for his preferred position on the left wing.

Real are said to have adopted the phrase ‘there are trains that only pass once in a lifetime’ to describe the deal, both from their side as well as Mbappe’s, with the club looking to avoid a repeat of the dramatic situation from two years ago.

Ultimately neither side are keen to see the saga drag on and Mbappe has given his word to PSG that a decision will be made imminently.
