The big spenders will be out in force again this summer, with Real Madrid looking to back new boss Xabi Alonso, Chelsea keen to improve again after securing Champions League qualification, and Manchester United desperate to reclaim some kind of success after a disastrous season that saw them finish just three places above the relegation zone in the Premier League.

Article continues under the video

The Red Devils have signed Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, with Man City also flexing their financial power to sign Tijani Reijnders, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki.

Chelsea have signed Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, notably.

Some big deals happened earlier than usual due to the Club World Cup and the deadline for participation in that tournament is now over, though the window remains open.

The biggest deal so far this summer saw Florian Wirtz complete a blockbuster transfer to Liverpool from Leverkusen.

Some questions that will hang over the transfer window this season:

  • Will Viktor Gyokeres leave Sporting CP?
  • Who will sign Victor Osimhen?
  • How much can Barcelona spend?
  • Will top players want to join Man Utd?
  • Will Arsenal sign a world-class striker?

Ferdinand questions why Rashford is leaving United

Rio Ferdinand is disappointed that Man Utd are allowing Marcus Rashford to leave for Barcelona on loan.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: "There must have been so much going on behind the scenes that we're just not aware of. And Marcus isn't someone who really wants to talk and do interviews, so you have to respect that.

"But I'm sure it'll come out in the wash at some point. Is it because of a lack of form? A lack of confidence? Mismanagement? Have the club failed him? Or is it down to him? Is there injuries we don't know about? Has he lost that desire? That form is gone and he can't rekindle it and can't get it back?

"What are the issues that have led to a young kid that's a graduate of the academy at Manchester United, which is famous for all of the great players that have come through there, that he says he wants to leave?"

Rashford giving up money to join Barca

Marcus Rashford is giving up 30% of his wages to force a move to Barcelona.

The Manchester United forward has no future at Old Trafford under Ruben Amorim and is currently in the city of Barcelona for a medical ahead of a loan switch, which can be made permanent next year for a fee of €30 million. (El Partidazo de COPE)

Who should they go for?

Garnacho to replace Rogers at Villa?

Alejandro Garnacho is open to moving to Aston Villa and could be a potential replacement for Morgan Rogers, who has been linked with Chelsea.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey told TBR Football

“Alejandro Garnacho wants to stay in England, and there are only so many options. Chelsea, we know, like him, whilst Tottenham have maintained contact. But Aston Villa have emerged as an option, I am told the player has done his homework on the possibility of working with Unai Emery, and he has heard good things.

“Emery knows how to get a tune out of these young talents – we have seen it with the likes of Morgan Rogers, indeed, could Garnacho replace the England man? It is not impossible. Villa want to make some impact on the market this summer, and Garnacho could be just that for them.”

Joao Felix close to Benfica return

Joao Felix is reportedly on the cusp of a return to Benfica.

The Chelsea forward has failed to live up to expectations since his huge money transfer to Atletico Madrid, while subsequent moves to Barcelona, the Blues and Milan have been disastrous.

The player himself wants to return to Portugal as he previously told reporters: "The whole world knows that Benfica is my favourite team. It's my home. One day I will return. I don't know if it's now or in a few years, but if it were now I would be very happy. There are two options: either I stay in England or I return to Benfica." (Record)

Tomiyasu explains why he left Arsenal

Takehiro Tomiyasu has explained why he decided to prematurely leave Arsenal one year before his contract expired.

“It wasn’t a sudden decision to leave," he told DAZN Japan. "First of all, I want to make it clear that my contract wasn’t terminated unilaterally, and I didn’t unilaterally say: ‘I’m leaving’.

“We had a proper discussion and came to the conclusion that this decision is best for me, for the club, and for everyone. So I’m leaving. It all ended amicably. From my perspective, it’s the best timing. I’ll be free, and most importantly, the most positive thing about this decision is that it will allow me to focus on my rehabilitation and on myself.

“I was there for four years, but I only played five minutes in the 2024/25 season, and I spent a whole year in rehabilitation. I was under a lot of stress and anxiety. To be honest, I wasn’t feeling like I was there anymore, and I was wondering: ‘Is this where my future is?’”

Inter pushing hard for Lookman

Eventually...

Man Utd tried to sign Inter's Esposito

Man Utd approached Inter in January over a potential deal for Francesco Pio Espositio.

Seven months ago, United were desperate for attacking reinforcements and spoke to Inter over the player, who was on loan at Spezia in Serie B. However, the Nerazzurri quickly rejected the enquiry as they view Esposito as a star of the future.

More recently, Atalanta expressed interest during the negotiations over Ademola Lookman, but were again rebuffed. (Football Italia)

Gyokeres receives praise from Arsenal star

Gabriel Magalhaes has heaped praise on Viktor Gyokeres ahead of his proposed summer move to Arsenal.

The Sporting CP striker is on the cusp of a transfer to the Emirates just as soon as Arsenal and the Portuguese side can iron out a few payment details.

“We all know he is a great player, but he is a Sporting player not an Arsenal player," Gabriel admitted to BBC Sport.

“Playing against him last year was a challenge. He is great and had a great season."

Isak's agent suggests big news is coming

Alexander Isak's agent has suggested that big news surrounding his client is coming soon.

The Newcastle striker has been strongly linked with Liverpool over the past couple of weeks but so far the Reds have not met Newcastle's £150 million valuation.

Whether it's a transfer or a new contract with Newcastle, Gonzalo Gaitan says an update on the situation is coming, telling Saudi Arabian newspaper Arriyadiyah:

“We are indeed studying and analysing all options, and we may be close to finalising the next step for the player. Without revealing any details regarding whether Isak will transfer or stay with Newcastle.”
