Fabrizio Romano CONFIRMS major Barcelona transfer plan

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed a major development over the future of Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski.

Out of contract at the end of the season, the Pole has been linked with an astonishing January transfer to Manchester United, with doubts hanging over his long-term future at the Camp Nou side.

This news comes despite a backdrop of outstanding ongoing performance from the 37-year-old. He has scored seven La Liga goals to sit joint second in the Pichichi standings alongside Julian Alvarez, who has played five more goals.

Indeed, while Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe is the runaway leader on 13 strikes, Lewandowski is scoring at the phenomenal rate of once every 64 minutes – better than any other player in Spain.

It will come as a source of relief to Barcelona fans, then, that Romano has confirmed that the veteran hitman has no plans to leave the club.

Romano on Lewandowski transfer rumours

Romano confirmed on X: “Robert Lewandowski has never considered a January exit from Barca and retirement also not part of the current conversations.

“Full focus on Barca until June to win all titles possible and then chances to part ways/try new career chapter.”

While Lewandowski’s short-term future at Barcelona now appears totally locked down, there is far more significant doubt about what happens when his contract expires.

Barca have been linked with a move for a number of leading strikers, including Alvarez, Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen and even Manchester City’s Erling Haaland. But with the club still not in good financial health, these deals appear unlikely for the moment.

Flick raves about Lewandowski’s influence at Barcelona

Head coach Hansi Flick appears desperate for Lewandowski to remain.

“I don't know what's in his DNA, but he recovers in three weeks from injuries that should last five,” he commented prior to the 3-3 Champions League draw with Club Brugge earlier this month.

“When Lewandowski and Olmo returned, training was different. The level rose considerably, as did that of the younger players. We need these players to reach our full potential. And that takes time. It's not just about winning, but about understanding the situation and managing it.”

The message from Barcelona’s coach is clear; if he had his way, Lewandowski will sign a new deal.
