Barcelona midfielder Gavi has admitted his admiration for Real Madrid star Aurelien Tchouameni as he prepares to face the Frenchman in El Clasico.

The young Spaniard missed Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League in midweek due to suspension, but he is set to return for their huge clash against Real Madrid on Saturday afternoon.

Los Blancos are currently top of La Liga on 25 points, but Barca could leapfrog their arch-rivals if they win and Girona fail to beat Celta Vigo.

While Real Madrid and Barcelona are sworn enemies, Blaugrana wonderkid Gavi has revealed his admiration for Tchouameni, who joined Real Madrid from Monaco last summer.

What has Gavi said?

Speaking to DAZN ahead of the game, as per Barca News Network, Gavi said: “I quite like Tchouaméni as a player. He seems like a top-level footballer to me, and I really like his style of play.”

The France international has re-established himself in Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI this season after falling out of favour during the final few months of the 2022-23 campaign.

Tchouameni has been deployed at the base of Real Madrid’s midfield diamond, with summer signing Jude Bellingham at the tip, closest to the front two.

The England international has also impressed Gavi this term. ““He [Bellingham] is showing his level at Madrid,” the young Spaniard said. “But of course, they have many other very complete players, and you shouldn’t focus on just one, but the entire team.”

Bellingham has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in just 12 Real Madrid games since his €103 million transfer from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

As for Gavi, he has netted two goals and bagged one assist in 12 matches in all competitions this season. He had a hand in all three goals during Barcelona’s last meeting with Real Madrid however, scoring once and providing two assists in a 3-1 win in the Supercopa final.
