Liverpool reach 'agreement in principle' to sign Jeremie Frimpong

Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Jeremie Frimpong as they look to sign the Bayer Leverkusen star this summer.
Arne Slot’s side are actively chasing a new right-back, following confirmation that Trent Alexander-Arnold will depart upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June, and they have identified Frimpong as their top target.
The Netherlands international has excelled as a wing-back in Xabi Alonso’s 3-4-3 system at Leverkusen over the past two years, however Liverpool are looking to bring him in as a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold - who will join Real Madrid on a Bosman deal in July.
Conor Bradley has deputised well for Alexander-Arnold over the past few years at Anfield, but Liverpool are eager to bring in a more established right-back to replace the England international and Frimpong is their preferred choice.
Multiple reports have stated that Liverpool are in advanced talks with the 24-year-old and Nicolo Schira has now revealed that “an agreement in principle” has been reached with the Dutchman.
Frimpong will reportedly sign a five-year contract that runs until 2030, with Liverpool ready to trigger the €40 million release clause included in his current deal at Bayer Leverkusen.
The Netherlands international has scored 30 goals and provided 44 assists in 190 appearances for Leverkusen, since his arrival from Celtic in January 2021, while his Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €55m.

Bayer Leverkusen summer overhaul
Bayer Leverkusen won their first ever Bundesliga title with an Invincible campaign last year, but their squad is set to be dismantled upon the conclusion of this season.
Florian Wirtz is set to join Bayern Munich or Manchester City, Jonathan Tah will leave on a Bosman deal, Patrik Schick is wanted by numerous top clubs and Frimpong is now expected to arrive at Liverpool.
In addition, Xabi Alonso has confirmed he will leave his role as head coach in order to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.
