Bayern Munich will be set for an intriguing summer with the Bundesliga side coming off the back of their worst domestic season in 12 years.

The German giants missed out on the Bundesliga title for the first time since 2012 after an underwhelming campaign under Thomas Tuchel, which has seen the Bayern boss announce his intention to leave the club this summer.

With Bayern on the search for a new manager and dealing with the humiliation of being ousted as the top side in Germany, it could be a busy transfer window for the Bavarians, especially with some key players likely to depart.

FootballTransfers takes a look at five players who could make the move to the Allianz Arena this summer.

Theo Hernandez (Milan)

One of the biggest agendas in the summer for Bayern will be the future of Alphonso Davies, with the left-back likely to leave after so far resisting the club’s efforts to sign a new contract.

With just one year remaining on his contract and significant interest from Real Madrid, Bayern are reportedly accepting the idea that Davies will leave and have already started considering his replacements.

While the likes of Quilindschy Hartman and Miguel Gutierrez will also be convinced, Bayern’s top target is thought to be Theo Hernandez, although Milan are expected to demand a significant fee for the French international.

Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen)

Bayern had hoped to lure Xabi Alonso to Munich as the successor to Tuchel, however the Leverkusen boss has committed his future to the newly-crowned champions and dashed the hopes of his rivals in the process.

However, Bayern are still hoping to take one of Leverkusen’s crown jewels this summer and, while perhaps the long-term dream is playmaker Florian Wirtz, the 20-year-old has insisted he has no desire to leave his side this summer.

Instead, Bayern could move for Jeremie Frimpong as a long-term solution to their right-back issues, with the Dutchman said to be open to a transfer after a prolific season for Leverkusen.

Amadou Onana (Everton)

Bayern’s pursuit of a defensive midfielder has been no secret, with Fulham’s Joao Palhinha having come close to a transfer on deadline day last summer.

The interest in Palhinha is thought to have cooled and Bayern will likely consider other targets such as Martin Zubimendi, although the Real Sociedad man may prove too expensive, while Arsenal may also provide a more attractive option for the Spaniard.

Another target is expected to be Amadou Onana, who will likely be sold by Everton this summer due to the Premier League side’s financial woes, with Bayern ready to pounce with an offer of more than €50 million.

Chris Fuhrich (Stuttgart)

Stuttgart have proven to be a surprise package in the Bundesliga this season, currently sitting third and level on points with Bayern, largely in part due to players such as Chris Fuhrich.

The winger has been instrumental for Sebastian Hoeness’ side this season, earning him a first call-up to the German national team and attracting the attention of teams such as Bayern.

Fuhrich is understood to have a release clause worth €23.5m in his contract and the appealing price tag combined with his ability to offer competition to the likes of Leroy Sane could make the transfer a no brainer for Bayern.

Assan Ouedraogo (Schalke)

Bayern have always looked to target the best young players in Germany and that is expected to be the case for Assan Ouedraogo, who will likely leave Schalke this summer.

The 17-year-old has broken into Schalke’s first team and became the 2. Bundesliga’s side’s youngest ever player as well as goalscorer, although he is set to depart with the club looking towards another season in the second flight.

Although there is expected to be competition from a host of Europe’s top sides, Bayern will be considered front runners for the midfielder at a relatively nominal cost.
