Pep Guardiola “killed” the self confidence of Angelino, the RB Leipzig defender has said of the Manchester City manager.

The Spaniard turned professional while with City in 2014 but failed to make a single league appearance and made numerous loan moves.

In 2018, he moved to PSV only to be re-signed by Man City 12 months later as they trigged a buy-back option in his contract.

However, Angelino would again struggle for game time back at the Etihad and left on loan to Leipzig in January 2020.

On 13th February, Leipzig confirmed that they had signed Angelino on a permanent basis for an undisclosed fee. This came in response to Bayern Munich’s announcement that they would sign Dayot Upamecano in the summer.

The 24-year-old has broken his silence over the torment he suffered under Guardiola at Man City.

“Pep killed me and my self confidence,” he told Bild.

“After my move from PSV back to Man City, he judged me on two friendly matches and didn’t give me a real chance again.

“I was happy that I was able to come to RB Leipzig and that I am now an integral part of the club.”

The 24-year-old has become one of the most potent attacking wing-backs in the European game. In the Bundesliga this term, he has played 21 games and has contributed four goals and six assists, while he has three goals and three decisive passes in seven Champions League outings.

It is estimated that Man City sold Angelino to RB Leipzig in January for a fee of £16.2 million (€18.5m).
