Who is Elye Wahi? The Montpellier wonderkid who scored four goals in one game

Elye Wahi is a name you’re bound to hear more and more of.
The 20-year-old netted four goals in Montpellier’s 5-4 loss over Lyon on Sunday, in what was one of the games of the season in Ligue 1.
Playing as a No.9, the youngster found the back of the net three times from open play and once from the penalty spot.

He began his career as a youth player at Caen - and in the 2016–17 season as an under-14 and under-15 player, he scored an astonishing 89 goals.
From there, it’s been a huge trajectory - he joined his current side ahead of the 2020-21 season, making 18 appearances in Ligue 1 and scoring three goals in that time.
The following season was a marked improvement: he netted ten league goals in 33 outings.
His incredible showing against Lyon puts his current total for this season at 17 goals in 27 matches.

Wahi has also been played on both flanks - being something of an all-rounder on the forward line.

He is 6 ft tall and does like to press the ball high up the pitch, being an archetypal modern-day striker.
What clubs are interested in Wahi?
Arsenal and Everton have been reportedly linked to the attacker - but Montpellier manager Michel Der Zakarian says buyers will need to spend big to secure a move.
"[Discussions about Issiaga Sylla's and Elye Wahi's futures] have cut into our preparations a bit," Der Zakarian said."If Elye is forced to leave, which is possible, he must leave at a high price."
