Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, has announced that the signing of Sergio Aguero will be the first of many for the club this summer.

The addition of Aguero on a free transfer from Manchester City was confirmed on Monday, with Eric Garcia joining the Argentine in leaving the blue side of Manchester and signing for Barca on Tuesday morning.

Aguero scored 260 goals in 390 games for Man City, whilst Garcia played 35 times for Pep Guardiola’s side.

They will now both join up with Ronald Koeman at Barcelona, and president Laporta has promised fans that more signings are on the way.

What has Laporta said?

With Aguero being presented as a Barcelona player, Laporta explained why the Argentine’s signature was so important: “We told Koeman we were trying to sign Kun Aguero, any coach would want to have him in their squad.

“Kun’s signing is important because he is an exceptional player, he plays in a position that is very important in any system and in ours too.

“We want him in a competitive team, we also want Leo [Messi] to stay and he knows that…he is the first of a series of signings you will see in the coming month.”

The important part for Barca fans is that Laporta revealed there will be “a series of signings” arriving through the doors at the club this summer.

After finishing third in La Liga and crashing out of the Champions League in the round of 16, some additions are certainly needed.

Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum and Lyon’s Memphis Depay appear the most likely, and with both having worked under Koeman for the national team, it could be a match made in heaven.

Furthermore, whilst Laporta told the media that Aguero’s signing has nothing to do with pleasing Lionel Messi, fans of the Blaugrana will be hoping that the addition of his lifelong friend will be enough to convince their magician to stay at the club.
