Read Madrid winger Takefusa Kubo has revealed why he cut short a loan stint at Villarreal in order to join Getafe.

The 19-year-old’s season-long move to El Madrigal was terminated by mutual consent earlier this month after he had fallen out of favour under Unai Emery.

He has since joined Getafe for the remainder of the campaign, and made his debut off the bench in a 3-1 victory over Elche last week.

  • Asked why he had chosen to make that move by Marca, Kubo replied: “I am a young player and I need to feel like a footballer. I chose Getafe because they were the team who had the most interest in me.

“What matters most is the next game. I was able to play a role in the two goals last week, and that gives me confidence. My main objective is to help the team achieve its goals and in turn, that will help me to grow as a footballer.”

Kubo went on to dismiss suggestions that he was influenced by a desire to return to Madrid when choosing Getafe as his next destination.

“No, that has nothing to do with it. Even if Getafe were in Andalusia, they would have come for me anyway. That is what matters,” he said.
