Chelsea manager Graham Potter has admitted that Mason Mount’s situation at the club is “complicated”.

Out of contract in 2024, the 24-year-old is being courted by a string of Premier League giants, with Manchester United and Liverpool both linked with the England international.

FootballTransfers has already revealed that the Reds are eyeing a move for both Mount and Jude Bellingham in the summer, while Man Utd are also known to be chasing reinforcements in the same area of the field.

Mount’s form for the Blues, meanwhile, has been disappointing this season. He has played 32 times this term but has only netted three times and chipped in six assists. For comparison, he scored 11 and created 10 in the Premier League alone.

Now the manager has confessed that there is every chance Mount could be on his way out.

“Like I have said, my feelings for Mason are clear. I think he’s a fantastic person firstly, but sometimes these things happen,” he said.

“They are just complicated. It’s best I speak little about it and let them decide what's best for both parties.

“I’m not naïve. I know it’s an important time for him, and an important contract. These things have to be right for him and his family and it’s important he makes that decision on that basis.”

Chelsea, having spent more than £600 million this season, may be forced into sales because of Financial Fair Play, and speculation is increasing that their academy product could be one of those for the chop.

FootballTransfers gives Mount an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €73.5 million.

Potter on Mount being dropped

Having been a mainstay of the side previously, Mount’s recent lack of pitch time hints at a rocky future at Stamford Bridge, though Potter brushed that assertion away.

“He's just like everyone else; he wants to play,” the ex-Brighton boss said.

“At the moment, he is suffering with a slight injury, so he probably needs a little bit more time before he's available properly.

“He is happy around the place and wants to help the team, that is normal with Mason. He wants the team to help the team, wants to win, be injury free and play football.”

Chelsea play Leicester on Saturday, with victory over Borussia Dortmund in midweek easing the pressure on Potter and his side.

Premier League rivals, Man Utd and Liverpool, meanwhile, will remain attentive to Mount's progress.
