Chelsea are reportedly open to sacking Enzo Maresca this summer if they fail to secure qualification for next season’s Champions League.

The Blues may be required to beat both Manchester United and Nottingham Forest in their final two Premier League matches of the campaign after a 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Sunday, and the consequences of failing to achieve this could be catastrophic for Maresca.

Clearlake Capital have continuously backed Maresca despite Chelsea’s poor run of form in 2025, but TEAMtalk claim that he could be sacked if the Blues finish outside the top five in the English top flight this campaign, while the outcome of the Europa Conference League final could also impact his future at Stamford Bridge.

There are reportedly “doubts” about Maresca amongst members of the Chelsea board, with some believing his style of play isn’t suited to the Premier League, despite the fact they hired him after he used the exact same system at Leicester City last year.

The club are worried by Maresca’s “lack of identity” and although a final decision on his future hasn’t been made, the Italian is “no longer considered untouchable” at Stamford Bridge.

However, Maresca signed a five-year contract upon his arrival in west London, so he would be owed a significant amount of compensation if Chelsea opt to sack him after just 12 months at the helm.

Enzo Maresca at Chelsea

Maresca currently has a 59.3% win rate at Chelsea, but that percentage is massively boosted by 11 victories in 12 Europa Conference League matches.

His win rate is lower than Maurizio Sarri (61.9%), who left Chelsea after just one year, although he has already equalled the points tally that his predecessor Mauricio Pochettino achieved in the Premier League last season with two games left to play.
