Chelsea are reportedly set to pay Manchester United a €6 million penalty fee in order to cancel their obligation to buy Jadon Sancho this summer.

The former England international moved to Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan deal on Transfer Deadline Day last August and he has endured an underwhelming spell in west London, despite an immensely positive start.

Sancho notched three assists in his first three Premier League appearances for Chelsea, but he has only added a further three goals and two assists in 27 English top flight games since then and he is firmly behind Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke in the pecking order.

Furthermore, with Estevao Willian arriving from Palmeiras and Chelsea aiming to sign a new right-footed left winger this summer, Sancho is set to fall even further down the list of Enzo Maresca’s preferred wide options next season.

As a result, The Mirror claim that Chelsea are ready to pay a €6m (£5m) penalty fee to send Sancho back to Man Utd.

Although his loan move to Stamford Bridge included a €30m obligation to buy clause, Man Utd also added an option for Chelsea to cancel this agreement for the price of €6m and while the Blues have been widely expected to sign Sancho on a permanent deal, they are now reportedly set to pay the penalty fee.

Man Utd to sell Jadon Sancho

While Sancho could be set to return to Man Utd this summer, he is almost guaranteed to leave the club before the start of the new campaign.

Borussia Dortmund have been linked with re-signing the 25-year-old for the third time, while Bayer Leverkusen have now joined the race for his signature, according to The Mirror.

The 2023-24 Bundesliga champions are set to lose Florian Wirtz this summer, amid significant interest from Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Real Madrid, and they have reportedly identified Sancho as a possible replacement.
