RB Leipzig have confirmed that they have signed Monaco defender Benjamin Henrichs permanently after he joined the club on loan in July.

It is expected that Leipzig will pay €15 million for the Germany international defender, who has signed a deal that runs until 2025.

Henrichs has spent the duration of the campaign at the Bundesliga side but has been restricted because of injury issues. Indeed, he has managed only 10 league appearances, with his first assist for the club arriving on Saturday in the 4-1 win over Werder Bremen.

“Since first coming to Leipzig, it’s been my goal to stay for the long term. I feel really good here and am pleased to be an RB Leipzig player for the coming years,” he said.

“The injuries I’ve suffered this season are completely behind me. Now I want to get back at it along with the rest of the team!”

Leipzig had already previously secured the signings of Mohamed Simakan from Strasbourg and Ajax attacker Brian Brobbey.

Henrich’s versatility praised

Meanwhile, sporting director Markus Krosche praised the adaptability of the 24-year-old, both on and off the field.

“We’re pleased that Benny will be staying with us long term,” he said.

“He’s has a bit of bad injury luck this season, but as a German international possesses a great amount of talent, is versatile and can still have a greater influence on our team. His multilingualism also makes him a great asset to the squad.”

Henrichs, who has five caps for Germany, moved to Monaco in 2018 from Bayer Leverkusen for €20m but struggled to settle in France, where he was primarily used as a right-back, and so it came as no surprise when he was moved on to Leipzig earlier this season.
