FIFA have announced when fans can purchase the next batch of tickets for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The tournament next summer will be the biggest ever edition of the World Cup with 48 teams participating which means a much larger demand for match tickets.

There have already been two batches of tickets sold but fans have purchased these for specific venues and not specific games as the matches haven't been confirmed yet.

The draw for the 2026 World Cup takes place in the USA on Friday. Thereafter, we'll know the schedule of matches including venues and kick-off times.

FIFA announced that the next batch of tickets will be available to eligible fans on 11 December. Because the draw will be concluded by then, buyers will be able to try and find specific matches for their country of choice and be able to plan travel accordingly.

Those who stay in a certain area and want to visit a specific venue will know exactly what matches will take place at that venue.

Fans have up until 13 January to enter the ballot and how quickly one enters the ballot will not be a deciding factor in the random draw process.

Fans of a country may also be eligible to apply for Participating Member Association (PMA) supporter tickets beginning 11 December.

The second buying phase that preceded this one was made available only to citizens of the host nations, the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Overall, though, citizens of 212 nations have secured tickets already.

Ticket price controversy

FIFA has already received criticism for the exorbitant prices of match tickets.

The governing body initially confirmed that $60 tickets would be available for group stage matches. However, when fans logged on to purchase tickets in the first and second phase, these tickets were barely available.

Split into four pricing categories depending on the location of the seat, the cost for group stage games ranged from $60 to $620. Ticket prices for the final at MetLife Stadium reached as high as $6,730, with even Category 4 spots going for as much as $2,030, according to The Athletic.

Since then, FIFA has opened an official secondary market in the US and Canada, and prices have skyrocketed even further due to the governing body charging a 15 per cent commission and not implementing a cap.

Dynamic pricing is in place, so increased demand means dearer tickets.

Resale sites such as StubHub have tickets available for the World Cup final in the hundreds of thousands.
