Two MLS sides among candidates to sign World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann
The rumours regarding Antoine Griezmann moving to Major League Soccer are not going away.
The World Cup winner has been linked with a switch to MLS for the last couple of years and it seemed like a transfer may happen in the summer of 2025.
A move never materialised for Griezmann and Jerome Meary, an MLS football agent who specialises in high-profile transfers, explained why.
Speaking to After Foot at an event in New York, Meary previously explained: "We've been trying to get him here for two years, and unfortunately it didn't happen. It was quite close at one point with Los Angeles, but it didn't happen. He had a very good offer from Atletico, it's his favorite club, that's it.
"I think he was really motivated to come to the US, but you're fighting against a club like Atletico where he's a legend, and they made a very good financial offer that we couldn't match."
In June, the Frenchman signed a contract extension with Atletico to stay at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2027.
However, new reports suggest that MLS sides have not given up on enticing Griezmann to MLS.
Griezmann to move to MLS in 2026?
MLS Transfers has reported on X that there are a number of clubs still pursuing Griezmann despite the contract extension with Atleti.
The X page, which has over 50,000 followers, reported:
"Despite his renewal at Atleti, New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire are just a few teams signaling interest in Antoine Griezmann come summer 2026, and will pitch come January. LAFC still own his discovery rights. Monterrey from Mexico have also already reached out."
