Huge MLS departure imminent as Charlotte sell ANOTHER star
The transfer deadline in Major League Soccer is fast approaching but expect some big business to be done between now and Thursday, particularly with regards to departures.
We have already seen a few players leave the league for significant transfer fees.
Luciano Acosta left Dallas for Fluminense, Santiago Moreno left Portland, also for Fluminense and Pedro Vite joined Pumas from Vancouver, to provide a few examples.
The biggest MLS deal for an outgoing player this summer saw Charlotte's Patrick Agyemang leave for the English Championship side, Derby.
And, the MLS side are about to sanction another significant exit - one that will become the most expensive departure of the summer.
Dominic Shaw of British newspaper The Northern Echo has revealed that Middlesbrough are on the cusp of signing defender Adilson Malanda from Charlotte for a fee of $8 million plus add-ons.
Transfer expert Tom Bogert then reported that Malanda will officially sign with Middlesbrough before the deadline, but will not actually leave Charlotte until January when the MLS season ends.
Malanda was being tracked by PSV, Club Brugge, Benfica and Norwich City but Middlesbrough won the race for his signature after agreeing to let him finish the campaign with Charlotte.
As well as standing at a towering 6ft 4in, the Frenchman is known for his passing ability as he has the most accurate long ball stats in the MLS this campaign.
He has already been spotted in Middlesbrough and the announcement is expected soon.
