Robert Mancini breaks silence on Man City charges: 'Not my concern'

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has spoken about the club's major financial charges that were confirmed last week.

Man City face 114 charges from the Premier League covering the period from 2009–10 to 2022–23. The majority relate to alleged failures to provide accurate financial information, including sponsorship revenue, club expenses, and payments made to players and managers.

City are also accused of breaching UEFA Financial Fair Play rules and the Premier League's own financial sustainability regulations. A further 35 charges relate to allegations that the club failed to properly cooperate with the Premier League's investigation by not providing requested information and documents.

The club deny all of the allegations and have maintained that they have evidence supporting their position. No sanctions such as points deductions, transfer bans or relegation have not been confirmed.

Mancini was Man City manager when they won the Premier League for the first time, with Sergio Aguero scoring that famous goal versus Queens Park Rangers on the last day of the season to clinch the title in 2012.

According to German publication Der Spiegel, Mancini is said to have had two separate contracts during his time at the Etihad.

He earned £1.45 million in a basic salary from Man City and £1.75 million as a consultant for a team controlled by City owner Sheikh Mansour in Abu Dhabi.

When quizzed about the charges and any potential part he played, Mancini told reporters:

"It's not an issue that concerns me," the Italy coach said ahead of the Azzurri's Nations League fixture against Turkiye on Monday.

"It's nothing new because this matter has been discussed for the last four or five years.

"Manchester City has not been found guilty, and the alleged double contract is not my concern. It's their issue, not mine."

Man City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said in a statement on Saturday that "nothing has changed" regarding the case, adding "our confidence and intent in proving the club's innocence is just as strong as when this began."

Mancini was City boss between 2009 and 2013 and took them to an FA Cup triumph as well as Premier League glory for the first time.
