Mohamed Salah wants to join Besiktas following his departure from Liverpool, according to reports in Turkey.

The 34-year-old is now a free agent after his contract at Anfield expired at the end of June and he has been heavily linked with a number of clubs across world football, including Chelsea, who have been tentatively tipped to pursue a deal to re-sign the forward.

However, Salah is expected to leave the Premier League this summer and a move to Saudi Arabia has been touted as his most likely next destination amid significant interest from a number of teams in the Middle East.

Despite this, Besiktas are also firmly in the race to secure Salah’s signature and Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu claims the Liverpool legend “wants” to join the club this summer, with talks over a deal therefore expected to ramp up soon.

It’s reported that Besiktas have been recommended to pursue a contract agreement, although Salah is demanding an annual salary of €15 million, which could prove to be an obstacle.

The likes of Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Inter Miami have also been linked with the Egypt legend in recent weeks, although Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has confirmed that an agreement has not yet been reached. However, a deal could be announced shortly.

“We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season but we may know very soon, Issa posted on X.

“It is not our style to have discussions with clubs that Mohamed wouldn’t want to play for, just for the sake of noise.”

Analysis: Who will Mohamed Salah join this summer?

As things stand, it appears as though Salah’s career in Europe’s top five leagues is over, with the Egyptian highly likely to join a club in the MLS, the Turkish Super Lig or the Saudi Pro League this summer.

Salah ended a hugely successful nine-year spell at Liverpool following the conclusion of the 2025-26 season, but his form undoubtedly decreased last year and his powers have certainly waned at 34 years old.

So, a move to a slower league seems inevitable and it appears as though Besiktas are the frontrunners as things stand.
