Xabi Alonso makes final decision as Chelsea edge closer to €50m sale
Alejandro Garnacho is not training with the Chelsea first team after being transfer listed by the club, according to the Daily Mail.
Garnacho endured a difficult first season at Stamford Bridge following his €46million (£40m) move from Manchester United last summer.
The 22-year-old scored eight goals in all competitions for the Blues, though he struggled to hold down a regular first-team berth.
And now the Mail understands Garnacho has not taken part in Xabi Alonso’s first training sessions as Chelsea manager.
Spaniard Alonso has officially started work at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground following his appointment in May.
The Mail understands Garnacho is not part of Alonso’s plans for next season and so the pair are working to find a solution in the transfer window.
The same publication reported earlier this week that the Argentina international is wanted by two Champions League clubs, with widespread reports indicating one of them is Serie A outfit Roma.
Transfers specialist Fabrizio Romano reported on Saturday that Chelsea value Garnacho at €52m (£45m) for Premier League clubs, and €50m (£42m) for teams outside of England.
Romano also understands Roma would prefer to sign Garnacho on loan, though Chelsea will only sanction a permanent transfer this summer.
Chelsea need to make sales in order to back Alonso this summer
A separate report in The Athletic claims Chelsea need to make sales in order to generate funds to back Alonso in the transfer market.
Chelsea announced a pre-tax loss (€306.2m/£262.4m) for the year ending June 30 2025 in April of this year - the largest ever recorded by a Premier League club.
The west Londoners sold Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid for an initial €55m (£46m) in June, while Tyrique George joined Everton in a deal worth up to €28m (£24m) earlier this month.
The Athletic also understands Chelsea are close to selling Andrey Santos to Manchester United for €58m (£50m).
Chelsea have managed to back Alonso with the signing of highly-rated defender Marco Palestra from Atalanta in a deal worth €55m (£46m).
BBC Sport understands the six-time league champions are also keen to sign a centre-back and a left-back this summer, with Crystal Palace's Maxence Lacroix and Rayo Vallecano's Pep Chavarria on their wishlist.
