Transfer Rumours: Man Utd face fresh competition for Fernandes as rivals see €100m deal rejected
FootballTransfers runs through the biggest rumours and gossip from 19 June, including the latest updates on Mateus Fernandes, Jeremy Monga and Yan Diomande.
Tottenham emerge as rivals to Man Utd for Fernandes
Manchester United are set to face another rival in their pursuit of Matheus Fernandes after Tottenham registered an interest in the West Ham midfielder.
Fernandes looks set to leave the Hammers after their relegation from the Premier League and United are understood to have identified the 21-year-old as their top target to strengthen in the middle of the park.
Real Madrid are also believed to hold a significant interest in Fernandes and The Athletic report that Tottenham could enter the race to sign the Portuguese international this summer, who is valued at £80 million (€92.1m.)
Spurs are already in talks to sign Sandro Tonali for a fee in excess of €100 million, although Manchester City are also expected to compete to sign the Newcastle midfielder.
Leipzig reject €100m offer from Liverpool for Diomande
Liverpool have had a €100m proposal turned down by RB Leipzig for winger Yan Diomande, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Diomande is believed to be Liverpool’s top target after the signing of Victor Munoz was confirmed on Wednesday and the Merseysiders told Leipzig that they would be willing to make offer €90m plus €10m in add-ons for the 19-year-old.
However, Romano reports that Leipzig want closer to €120m for Diomande, although that valuation could rise based on his World Cup performances.
Liverpool are thought to be ahead of Paris Saint-Germain for Diomande’s signature, although the player’s preference is unclear at this stage, while Leipzig haven’t given up hope in keeping the winger.
Arsenal’s Monga bid rejected
Arsenal have had their first bid knocked back for Jeremy Monga, although the Gunners are expected to return and seal a deal for the Leicester wonderkid.
Monga has emerged as a key target for Arsenal and the 16-year-old’s first choice is to move to the Premier League champions, according to The Telegraph.
Leicester will not be able to sign Monga to a professional contract until his 17th birthday on 10 July but they are still expected to sell their star youngster for financial reasons.
Arsenal have been in talks with Monga’s representatives for a number of weeks and a formal bid was revealed to have been put in on Wednesday but it was quickly rejected by Leicester.
Arsenal prepare Barcola bid
Arsenal are preparing an opening offer for Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola as they look to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad ahead of the new season, according to The Independent.
It’s understood that Arteta’s side are preparing a first bid for the 23-year-old, with the club currently looking into the details of a possible deal amid significant transfer competition from Liverpool.
Barcola is regarded as a player who would immediately improve Arsenal’s starting XI and it has been widely suggested that PSG would be amenable to a sale if a suitable offer arrives for the France star, who scored for his nation during their 3-1 win over Senegal in their World Cup opener on Tuesday.
