Marcus Rashford’s future is set to change once again as Manchester United have altered their transfer stance for the forward who has spent the last season on loan at Barcelona.

Rashford, 28, departed Man Utd on loan in August after a fallout with former manager Ruben Amorim and has since indicated that he wants to move to the Blaugrana on a permanent basis.

Barca have a €30 million buyout clause in the agreement that they can trigger to sign the England attacker but have been delaying doing so as they assess their other options in the market.

Having been previously beset by financial issues, the Catalans have claimed that they cannot afford to sign Rashford but in the meantime have added Anthony Gordon in an €80m deal from Newcastle and have launched a bid worth €100m for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

Efforts to re-negotiate the buyout fee with Man Utd have proven fruitless, with the Premier League side so far insistent on their demand that the full €30m be met.

United, though, may be about to make a dramatic shift in their stance, according to Sport.

Marcus Rashford to Barcelona: Man Utd ready to buckle

Michael Carrick’s side are now said to be willing to reduce their demands for Rashford in a deal that is more to Barcelona’s liking.

The report claims: “United are now open to negotiating a different and more beneficial exit for Barcelona now that they have seen the player absolutely prioritised staying at Camp Nou and is closing himself off from any other proposal.”

But while this is positive news for Rashford, Barca could be ready to turn their backs on a player they have already agreed personal terms with.

“We need to see how Barca act in the coming weeks as Rashford has ceased to be a total priority for the club and the wage bill will have to be carefully judged,” it claims.

“Nothing is ruled out, although it is unlikely that Rashford will be able to return at the moment.”

Man Utd impose Rashford deadline

Man Utd are said to have given Barcelona until 15 June to make a final decision over their academy product, who had done everything in his power via his representatives to strike another loan agreement.

United have been stoic over Rashford’s €30m price due to the belief that they can strike a better deal with another club.

Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle have reportedly enquired about the forward, but Sport claims that the player does not want to listen.

Rashford’s hand may be forced after 15 June, by which time he is likely to be heading back to Man Utd, where he is not in Carrick’s plans for next season. His future is, therefore, likely to be decided after the World Cup, but it looks increasingly likely that he will be at neither Barcelona or Old Trafford by the time the transfer window shuts.
