Bradley Barcola suddenly finds himself a name at the front and centre of the transfer market. Arsenal, Liverpool and now Manchester United all want the PSG winger who looks increasingly likely to seek a new challenge this summer.

Barcola is a player who has been linked with Premier League clubs for several months but without the true conviction that a move might be possible. Liverpool have tracked the France winger for months, while FootballTransfers has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in the 23-year-old.

But there has been a sudden acceleration in his case on the eve of France’s World Cup campaign beginning against Senegal. Why are PSG now apparently open to allowing one of Europe’s most desirable wingers a route out of the club?

Barcola in difficult PSG contract talks

Barcola’s potential transfer is being driven by a sense of pragmatism from PSG’s perspective.

“Bradley is a super important player for us. But, as we’ve done since the beginning of this project, we’ll only keep players who are highly committed. If someone wants to leave PSG, we’ll have to find a solution. They need to show a desire to stay,” L’Equipe quotes an anonymous internal source as having said.

The former Lyon player is coming to a crossroads in his career. He has two years left on his contract with the Parc des Princes side and has apparently shown little interest in signing a new deal, despite talks with agent Moussa Sissoko having been opened weeks ago.

FootballTransfers understands that Sissoko has been demanding on the subject of wages for both Barcola and his other client Ousmane Dembele but has found PSG to be inflexible on the subject, determined to stick to their wage structure that they will not even break for a Ballon d’Or winner.

This has created the possibility of Barcola, who has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €70.7 million, departing.

Disappointing output

There is also the thorny subject of performance. Is Barcola decisive enough for PSG on a consistent basis? He has faced persistent scrutiny from the media and fans over his final action.

While the noises from internally in PSG suggest he is an important figure, is this simply a bluff to maintain his transfer valuation?

He is, after all, coming off a season in which he scored 13 times and generated seven assists in 49 appearances. Given PSG’s monopoly on Ligue 1, these represent somewhat unspectacular figures.

Luis Enrique’s established first-choice trio of Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue have all been far more decisive this season, while even Goncalo Ramos posts a higher goals and assists per 90 than Barcola.

SciSports’ more holistic approach suggests that Barcola’s impact is more wide-ranging. It ranks the winger as Ligue 1’s second-best performer in his position over the course of the 2025/26 season, trailing only Kvaratskhelia and comfortably outperforming Doue.

Reports indicate that Luis Enrique appreciates this and will hold further talks with the player, yet the situation appears to be driven by those above him who are driving the agenda and culture of the club.

What happens now?

Barcola’s future will not be decided until after the World Cup.

Even with the amplification of doubts over his future, there is no guarantee that he will leave. Key figures such as Luis Enrique still want him to stay, but the temptation of the Premier League is real, with the interest of Arsenal and Liverpool both long standing and concrete.

The decision that Barcola faces is huge; one that could serve to define his career. It is vital he makes the right call.
