Bradley Barcola to Liverpool ON as journalist makes spectacular prediction
The future of Bradley Barcola is set to become a hotly debated topic at PSG next summer, which is music to the ears of suitors Liverpool.
The 23-year-old has seen his positive relationship with PSG become somewhat strained since the arrival of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia last January. The Georgian arrived in a whopping €70 million deal and eventually became Luis Enrique's favoured option on the left wing.
Reports emerged towards the end of last season that Barcola was growing increasingly unsure about his long-term future at the club. PSG want to hand him a contract extension to allay fears over his diminished status, but he has yet to commit to fresh terms.
Sensing the uncertainty surrounding the young winger, several clubs expressed an interest in Barcola in the summer. Liverpool and Bayern Munich were both keen, but PSG made it clear that he was not for sale.
For Liverpool, this was quite significant because they ended up selling Luis Diaz to Bayern without bringing in an adequate replacement. Instead, it was decided to put faith in teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha.
Liverpool handed Barcola opportunity?
The lack of options has now become a major bone of contention between coach Arne Slot and director Richard Hughes. The former wanted an elite replacement for Diaz, while the latter was keen for Ngumoha to get regular minutes.
However, Liverpool may be offered a second chance at signing Barcola next summer. PSG insider and L'Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi believes that the 23-year-old's future will become "a real topic" after this season.
Barcola has been a regular under Enrique this term, but he has started just a little over half of PSG's Ligue 1 matches so far. His output - five goals and three assists in 22 matches - has been somewhat underwhelming.
Tanzi is convinced that the arrival of another winger could mark the end of Barcola's time at PSG. RB Leipzig youngster Yan Diomande has been linked with every top club in Europe, including the Parisians.
“I think that Barcola will be a real topic next summer - to leave Paris Saint-Germain,” Tanzi told ICI.
